PENOBSCOT– Ed Dorr died peacefully
May 7, 2009, at his home, with his family
beside him, after a short illness. He was
born Oct. 23, 1933, in Harrington, to
Etta (Cousins) and Bernard Dorr. Ed
was a happy sort of guy and
accomplished much in his lifetime. He
went to school in Harrington. He married
Elaine in 1951 and then in 1954 moved
his family to Connecticut, where he
established his own business in
construction and excavation for many
years. Upon his return to Maine in 1970,
he opened a store for a while, then did
more construction work and finally was a
caretaker in Castine before retiring. Ed
is survived by his wife of 57 years,
Elaine; his daughters, Sally Judkins and
her husband, Dave, Sue Hatch and her
husband, Bob, of Penobscot and Cheryl
Crawford and her husband, Benny and
their granddaughter, Tori, of Castine;
daughter-in-law, Sheila Dorr and family
of Oklahoma; his sisters, Vera Pelky
and her husband, Don, of Orrington and
Arlene Hartford and her husband, Pete,
of Gouldsboro; sisters-in-law, Maxine
Dorr of Harrington and Ethel Garnett
and her husband, George, of
Bradenton, Fla.; mother-in-law, Lillian
Colson of Steuben; many grandchildren,
nieces and nephews. He was
predeceased by his brothers, Melvin
and Earl Dorr; father-in-law, Sonny
Colson; his son, Billy; and
granddaughter, Deena Judkins. At Ed’s
request, there will be no services. There
will be a private burial in Penobscot at a
later date.
 Our mom,
Elaine Ida (Colson) Dorr, went home to
be with her Lord and Savior on October 15, 2014.
She was born January 30, 1935, in Milbridge, Maine,
the daughter of William and Lillian (Beal) Colson.
Elaine was a great gardener, loved plants and could
grow most anything. She loved watching the birds,
too and fed them years round. When she was
younger she also loved to rake blueberries. Due to
declining health, in the last few years, she was very
limited in what she could do but thanked the Lord for
each day.
She leaves her daughters, Sally Judkins and family,
Susan Hatch and family of Penobscot and Cheryl
Crawford and family of Castine; her sister, who was
very dear to her, Ethel Garnett and her husband,
George, of Bradenton, FL,; and her late sons wife,
Sheila Keith and family of Sallisaw, OK. She was
predeceased by her parents; her husband, Ed; her
son, Billy; and a granddaughter, Deena Lee Judkins.
Elaine was a member of the Steuben Union Church.
We wish to express our thanks to Tracey Wills, mom’
s caregiver, for the time, care and love she gave
mom during her last days here on Earth.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday,
October 18, 2014, at Hillside Cemetery in Penobscot
for Elaine and her husband, Ed, who died May 7,
2009, with Pastor Dale Chasse officiating.
